Aqua Therapy
Aquatic Physical Therapy is one type of rehabilitation intervention performed by a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant. Aquatic therapy can allow for earlier interventions due to the special properties of water such as buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure, and viscosity. Often interventions that are intolerable on land can be initiated in the aquatic environment successfully. Interventions in the water can:
Reduce stress on joints
Improve balance, coordination, and agility
Increase flexibility
Improve muscle strength, endurance and power
Some conditions that are commonly treated with Aquatic Physical Therapy include; low back pain, osteoarthritis, hip pain, and post-surgical patients.
